Trending campaigns on Resistbot as of April 17, 2023.
Trying something new! Feel free to subscribe and follow along. I’ll write a weekly summary of trending campaigns and update you on new things happening at the bot in this Substack. Speaking of which, we have a new Discord! Stop by and hang out with us.
Here are the top trending campaigns over the past seven days:
Federal Assault Weapons Ban
Straight-forward: this one wants Congress to move to pass a ban on assault weapons, currently with twin bills in the House and Senate. We’ve been here before and will remain stuck in this waking nightmare until the GOP starts paying the price in primaries and general elections for their policies that go the opposite direction. Gun violence is now the number one cause of death of children.
Trans Rights are Human Rights
Tells your elected officials at the state and federal level, from President Biden to your state house representative, simultaneously, that trans rights matter to you. State legislatures have been busy banning gender-affirming care, passing “bathroom bills,” making it hard to update ID cards, and more. Track anti-trans legislation here or tell your officials. Thank you Jamie.
Many petitions have started asking Congress to investigate Clarence Thomas’ alleged corruption. This particular one will send a message directly to the Court asking Justice Roberts to take care of his own house. John Roberts has presided over a historic decline in the institution's approval.
A federal judge in Texas reversed the FDA approval of mifepristone, a drug that studies show is as safe as over-the-counter pain medication. Far from “returning [abortion] to the states,” this ruling was national in impact and needed an administrative stay by Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito to prevent a ban from going into place. The petition by Sara asks Congress and the Biden administration to use the legislative and executive branches to rein in the judicial.
P.S. Resistbot needs regular donors to stay online. Please consider becoming a monthly donor, especially if you use the bot and find it saves you time. Resistbot is a civic utility that we work to keep free to give a voice to people in a system already rigged to favor the voices of people (really corporations, mostly) with a lot of time, money, or both, but we need folks who can chip in. Thanks! -Jason Putorti, Executive Director
