Welcome to week 18! Twitter finally pulled our plug. If you used Resistbot only via Twitter and want to preserve your account stats and coins, please text 202-930-9888 with your Twitter handle, and our volunteers can restore access to your account on SMS. Once we connect your phone number, you can access your account from Apple Messages, WhatsApp, Messenger, and more. Twitter had reliability and scale issues before shutting off our access anyway, so you should enjoy a better experience! 🫡
Here are the top trending campaigns over the past seven days:
H.B. 667 (Texas)
Texas House Bill 667 would establish licensure for music therapy in the state of Texas. Music Therapists use music within a therapeutic relationship to address students' physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs. This is being organized by The Texas State Task Force for Music Therapy Recognition. If you’re a Texan or know one, pass this one on. With programs in public schools being cut more and more, this is a chance to help children, especially those with special needs.
Raise the Debt Ceiling
Organized by
this letter asks Congress to pass a clean debt ceiling raise. The Republican bill to raise the debt ceiling includes other GOP priorities, including strict work requirements to receive Medicaid and food stamps. Essentially the Republicans are holding the world economy hostage (nobody really knows what would happen if the U.S. defaults on its debt) to increase hardship for poor people, especially children and people with disabilities.Ban Congressional Stock Trading
Believe it or not, members of Congress can trade individual stocks, even if they’re on a committee regulating the very companies they oversee. This bill would force members of Congress to divest these stocks or place them in a blind trust.
Others gaining steam last week: Medicare for All, Federal Assault Weapons Ban, Biden Must Do Better on Climate Change, and Reverse the Alaska LNG Project
P.S. Resistbot needs regular donors to stay online. Please consider becoming a monthly donor, especially if you use the bot and find it saves you time. Resistbot is a civic utility that we work to keep free to give a voice to people in a system already rigged to favor the voices of people (really corporations, mostly) with a lot of time, money, or both, but we need folks who can chip in. Thanks! -Jason Putorti, Executive Director
